Balatonakarattya
tourist information
People coming from Budapest get their first glimpse of Lake Balaton here. At the edge of the high-wall, a wide panorama opens up to the eastern basin of the lake. The sea-like landscape is closed to the southwest by the Tihany Peninsula.
- Rákóczi elm: In the center of Balatonakarattya stood a more than 400-year-old elm tree. It is the most famous ancient tree in the region. Unfortunately, it dried up in 1968, but in 2003, on Earth Day, a new tree started to grow.
- The gate of the Third Millennium – created by Péterfy Gizella in 2001 is a pure stone carving which dynamically organizes space around itself. It is located in the park near the high-wall. The two hands joining together above the two columns have a symbolic meaning – a warning to preserve values, encouraging introspection
- Beaches: Bercsényi, Lidó, Bezerédi and Gumirádli beach.
- High-wall, also known as Kisfaludy promenade has the most natural panorama in the Eastern region of the lake. From here we can see the northern and southern sides and in clear weather we can see Tihany too.
